11. (JEE Main 2023 (Online) 24th January Morning Shift)

Given below are two statements : one is labelled as Assertion A and the other is labelled as Reason R

Assertion A : Photodiodes are preferably operated in reverse bias condition for light intensity measurement.

Reason R : The current in the forward bias is more than the current in the reverse bias for a//--> p n junction diode.

In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below :

A. Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A

B. A is false but R is true

C. A is true but R is false

D. Both A and R are true but R is NOT the correct explanation of A

The Correct Answer is Option (D)

Photodiodes are preferably operated in reverse bias condition for light intensity measurement because it increases the width of depletion layer, therefore both are correct but not the correct explanation.

12. (JEE Main 2022 (Online) 28th July Morning Shift)

Identify the solar cell characteristics from the following options :

A.

13. (JEE Main 2022 (Online) 25th June Morning Shift)

The photodiode is used to detect the optical signals. These diodes are preferably operated in reverse biased mode because :

A. fractional change in majority carriers produce higher forward bias current

B. fractional change in majority carriers produce higher reverse bias current

C. fractional change in minority carriers produce higher forward bias current

D. fractional change in minority carriers produce higher reverse bias current

The Correct Answer is Option (D)

A photodiode is reverse biased. When light falling on it produces charge carriers, the fractional change, in minority carriers is high since the original current is very small.

14. (JEE Main 2022 (Online) 29th July Evening Shift)

A 8   V Zener diode along with a series resistance R is connected across a   20   V supply (as shown in the figure). If the maximum Zener current is   25   mA , then the minimum value of R will be _______ Ω .

JEE Main 2022 (Online) 29th July Evening Shift Physics - Semiconductor Question 27 English

R will be minimum when R L is infinitely large, so

R Zener  = 8 25 × 10 3 = 320 Ω

So R R Zener  = 12 8

R = 12 8 × 320 = 480 Ω

15. (JEE Main 2022 (Online) 26th July Morning Shift)

In the circuit shown below, maximum zener diode current will be _________ mA .

JEE Main 2022 (Online) 26th July Morning Shift Physics - Semiconductor Question 34 English

JEE Main 2022 (Online) 26th July Morning Shift Physics - Semiconductor Question 34 English Explanation

i s = 60 4 × 10 3 = 15 × 10 3 = 15 mA

i L = 60 10 × 10 3 = 6 mA

I z = i s i L = 9 mA
