Line x 2 3 = y 1 5 = z + 2 2 lies in the plane x + 3 y α z + β = 0

The direction ratios of the line are 3 , 5 , 2 .

The direction ratios of the normal to the plane are 1 , 3 , α .

The given line is perpendicular to the normal of plane.

3 ( 1 ) + ( 5 ) ( 3 ) + 2 ( α ) = 0 3 15 2 α = 0 12 2 α = 0 α = 6

Also, point ( 2 , 1 , 2 ) lies on the plane

Given equations:

2 x + 3 y + z = 1 2 x + 3 y = 1 z ...... (i) x + 3 y + 2 z = 2 x + 3 y = 2 2 z ...... (ii)

Subtracting (ii) from (i), we get

2 x + 3 y x 3 y = 1 z 2 + 2 z x = 1 + z z = x + 1 1 ...... (iii)

Putting value of x in equation (ii), we get

1 + z + 3 y = 2 2 z 3 z = 3 3 y z = y 1 1 ...... (iv)

From (iii), (iv)

x + 1 1 = y 1 1 = z 1

Thus, angle between above line and X -axis having Direction Ratio's ( 1 , 0 , 0 ) is given as

cos α = | 1 ( 1 ) + 0 + 0 1 + 1 + 1 1 | = 1 3 sec α = 3
