Now PS + QR

= s p + r q = ( s + r ) ( p + q )

Since M and N are mid-points of P Q and RS respectively, we write

m = p + q 2  and  n = r + s 2

eq. (1) becomes

PS + QR = 2 n 2 m = 2 ( n m ) = 2 MN
